Caramel Bread Pudding

Caramel Bread Pudding

This was a WINNER! It was my favorite dessert from this project thus far. Read the notes before you begin! This is a decadent offering, it pairs nicely with a scotch ;)

Braised Oxtails with Polenta and Brussel Sprouts
This was a really yummy one! We served the oxtails over a bed of garlic polenta, with a side of roasted brussel sprouts. The gravy was BOSS. Definitely take a look at the notes below, before beginning to cook. Enjoy!

Welcome!

Welcome to the Jean Butler Cookbook Blog!

The inspiration for this project is Jean Butler. She is the Grandmother of my wonderful (awesome, totally radical) boyfriend! She gifted to her children and grandchildren a lovingly hand-typed book of recipes that she made to feed her family in the Mexico in the 1940s and 50s.

This recipe book is a treasure, and a link to flavors and the feeling of family. I decided to cook my way through the book, every recipe one by one. I would like to be as authentic as possible, and use this project to honor the love of the original publication. I will spare no butter, no heavy cream, and no unusual ingredient. The recipes are typed up verbatim, so as not to lose her voice or humor. Any of the thoughts I have to add will be below the original offering, in notes. I hope that this project can serve as a way to document the process, and share these recipes with everyone so that they can stay alive and be easy to make and share.

Cheers!
